Lake Forest Defeats Concordia Chicago in Overtime

Lake Forest, Ill. – The Forester women’s soccer team hosted and defeated Concordia University Chicago 2-1 in overtime on Tuesday (September 19). Lake Forest raised its record on the year to 4-1-0 while the Cougars fell to 1-6-1.

Freshman Emily Sadler (Everett, Wash./Cascade Senior) started the scoring just 9:10 into the contest with her first career goal. She was assisted by classmate Jocelyn Maneval (Fairfax,Va./James W. Robinson).

Concordia tied the game on a penalty kick goal at 30:04.

Despite out-shooting the Cougars 35-5 in the contest, Lake Forest was unable to regain the lead until sophomore Katie Rice (Centennial, Colo./Eaglecrest) kicked in the winner 4:45 into overtime. Her team-leading third goal of the season was assisted by junior Marly Ashworth (Acworth, N.H./Fall Mountain Regional).

Senior Kristyne Operzedek (Deerfield, Ill./Deerfield) recorded a pair of saves and earned the victory. She is now 4-1-0 on the season with a 0.79 goals against average.

Lake Forest will resume Midwest Conference play on Saturday (September 23) at St. Norbert College. The match is schedule to begin at 2:00 p.m.
