Lake Forest Falls Just Short Twice Against Nation's #7 Team
Improving Foresters play well in pair of one-goal losses
  

Mel Guillermo had an assist on Friday and a goal on Saturday.

Both teams scored in the first period of Friday's contest. Jackie Schmitt put Stevens Point on the scoreboard first at the 8:18 mark. Sophomore Lindsey Wild (Inver Grove Heights, MN/Rosemount) tied the score with her fourth of the year of a pass from freshman Mel Guillermo (North Las Vegas, NV/Culver Academy) at 16:37.

After a scoreless second period, Jennifer Norris took advantage of a Stevens Point power play opportunity at the nine-minute mark of the third with what turned out to be the game-winning goal.

Junior Theresa Taylor (Spartanburg, SC/National Sports Academy) tallied 21 saves in the loss.

On Saturday, neither team was able to score until the 16:44 mark of the second period when Guillermo put the Foresters ahead with a power play goal. Freshman Lil Caligiuri (Wheaton, IL/Culver Academy) and senior Robyn Slater (Granite City, IL/Granite City Senior) assisted on Guillermo's third of the season. Freshman Nicki Paquette (Moncton, NB/New Hampton School) lit the lamp for the seventh time this year at 19:04 to give Lake Forest a two-goal lead. Sophomore Nichole Greco (Franklin Park, IL/Chicago Young Americans) was credited with the assist. Norris scored for Stevens Point just 19 seconds later to cut the margin to one goal.

Schmitt scored a power play goal for the Pointers at the 1:33 mark of the third period to tie the score. In overtime, Emily Teachout of Stevens Point found the back of the net at the 2:25 mark to end the game.

Taylor saved 33 shots on goal in Saturday's game. While her record fell to 8-5-3 on the season, she raised her save percentage to 92.9%. She also has a goals-against-average of 2.24.

The Foresters will be off next weekend but will be back on the home ice the following Wednesday (January 29) against Bethel College. Face-off will be at 7:00 p.m.
