Lake Forest Wins 10th Annual Forester Tip-Off Tournament
Clerkin and McCants names to All-Tournament Team

LAKE FOREST, IL - The Forester women's basketball team moved to 2-0 on the season Saturday (November 17th) by winning the championship game of the 2001 Forester Tip-Off Tournament over Augustana College by a score of 69-63. It is the program's eighth championship in the ten-year history of the event.

Junior forward Katie McCants (Menasha, WI/Menasha) led the team in scoring with 13 points. She shot 4-for-8 from the field and 5-for-6 from the line while adding six rebounds and three assists. Freshman forward Shannon Clerkin (Barneveld, WI/Barneveld) scored in double-figures for the second straight night with 10 points. She also chipped in eight rebounds and a pair of assists. Sophomore guard Tiffany Rudak (Tinley Park, IL/Victor J. Andrew) tallied 12 points, five assists and 4 steals in 31 minutes on the court.

The only time in the first half that the Foresters trailed was when Augustana scored the game's first basket to take a 2-0 lead. Lake Forest responded with a 9-0 run and led by 10 points (19-9) with 6:21 to go in the first period. Augustana outscored the home team 16-8 to cut the Forester lead to 27-25 going into halftime.

After the Vikings tied the game in the opening seconds of the second half, Lake Forest went on a 15-5 run to take a 10-point lead (42-32). The visitors scored the game's next 11 points to go ahead by one (43-42) with slightly more than 12 minutes to play. Augustana led by as many as three points on three separate occasions before a 9-0 Forester run put the game away.

In the Consolation Game, the Milwaukee School of Engineering defeated the Illinois Institute of Technology 53-41 to take third place in the tourney.

Clerkin and McCants were named to the Forester Tip-Off All-Tournament Team for their performances over the weekend. They were joined by Shari Gorr of M.S.O.E. and a pair of Augustana players, Kristen Pence and Julia Selzer.

Lake Forest's next game will be at Concordia University (IL) on Tuesday (November 20th) at 7:00 pm. Next weekend (November 23-24th), Lake Forest will travel to Oshkosh, Wisconsin for the UW-Oshkosh Holiday Classic Tournament. The Foresters will take on North Park University on Friday and will play either Edgewood College or UW-Oshkosh on Saturday.
