JACKSONVILLE, IL - The Lake Forest College women's basketball team won its fifth game in a row Tuesday (January 9th), a 77-59 defeat at Illinois College. The team's overall record is now 6-3 and their ninth consecutive victory against Midwest Conference opponents (dating back to last season) gives them a 3-0 record in the league.

Sophomore forward Katie McCants (Menasha, WI/Menasha) led the team in scoring for the third time this year with a game-high 21 points, tied for the team lead with 7 rebounds and dished out a career-high 4 assists in arguably the best game of her collegiate career. She made 10 of the 11 field goals she attempted, tying her for the second-highest single-game shooting performance in the country so far this season (90.9%).

Next in the scoring column for the Foresters was senior guard Alison Grubbs (Cullom, IL/Tri-Point) with 20. The nation's 12th-leading scorer (as of December 31st) also chipped in 5 rebounds, 3 assists and 3 steals. It was the fifth game in a row and seventh in nine games this year that Grubbs scored at least 20.

Lake Forest had two other players scoring in double-figures as freshman guard Sherry Wagner (Chicago, IL/Mother McAuley) scored a career-high 11 and senior guard Karla Gribble (Mineral Point, WI/Mineral Point) chipped in 10. The team's other leading rebounder was senior forward Kim Magee (Lake Oswego, OR/Lake Oswego) who, along with her 7 boards, led the team with 5 assists, matching her career high.

In a game in which they never trailed and led by as many as 22 points, the Foresters shot an even 50% (31 of 62) from the field and made 15 of 19 free throws (78.9%). On defense they had 15 steals and forced 29 Illinois College turnovers. Lake Forest also held a slight edge in rebounds, with 33 to the home team's 31.

Next on Lake Forest's schedule are back-to-back MWC games on Friday (January 12th) at home against Beloit College (6:00 PM) and on Saturday (January 13th) at Ripon College (2:00 PM).
