JACKSONVILLE, IL - The Lake Forest College women's basketball team, which entered the week ranked 26th in the nation in scoring (73.2 ppg), generated its highest output this season Wednesday (February 6th) in a 93-82 victory at Illinois College. The win gives the Foresters a season sweep over the Lady Blues and moves them to within one game of clinching a spot in the four-team Midwest Conference Championship Tournament.

Prior to Wednesday, the highest scoring game for a Forester this season was 18 points. Against Illinois College, however, a pair of guards, senior Jenni Klusman (New Berlin, WI/New Berlin West) and freshman Kandyce Green (Chicago Heights, IL/Marian Catholic), each poured in 25. Klusman, whose previous career-high was 17, shot 6-of-9 from the floor, 4-of-6 from three-point range, and 9-of-11 from the free throw line. Green, who was responsible for the 18-point game earlier in the year, shot 8-of-12 from the field, 2-of-4 from beyond the three-point arc, and 7-of-10 from the line.

Junior forward Katie McCants (Menasha, WI/Menasha) and freshman forward Shannon Clerkin (Barneveld, WI/Barneveld) also reached double figures in scoring with 16 and 10 points, respectively. McCants shot 5-of-9 from the floor, a perfect 6-of-6 from the line, and added five rebounds and a pair of assists. Clerkin, who leads the team with 6.8 rebounds per game, pulled down a game-high 11 boards and shot 4-of-7 from the field.

The Foresters held a 40-34 edge in rebounding for the game. Both teams shot nearly 50% from the floor, with Lake Forest knocking down seven three-pointers to the Lady Blues' one. Although the teams had nearly identical free throw percentages (Lake Forest 68.1%, Illinois College 67.7%), the Foresters made 11 more shots from the charity stripe.

Lake Forest (15-5, 10-4 MWC) is in third place in the conference, a game behind Lawrence University (11-8, 10-3), a game ahead of St. Norbert College (12-9, 9-5) and a game-and-a-half ahead of Ripon College (12-8, 8-5). Following the 16-game regular season, four teams will advance to the MWC Championship Tournament, which will likely be hosted by first-place Carroll College (17-4, 13-1). The Foresters are the two-time defending Conference Champions and need one more win in their final two games to clinch a spot in this year's tourney.

The next game for Lake Forest will be at home against Knox College (8-11, 4-9) Saturday (February 9th) afternoon at 2:00 PM. After hosting Trinity International University on Wednesday (February 13th) night, the Foresters will conclude their regular season with another home game against Grinnell College (0-17, 0-13) next Saturday (February 16th).
