Win at IWU is Third Straight for Foresters
Team overcomes 8-point halftime deficit

BLOOMINGTON, IL - The Lake Forest College women's basketball team went on the road Saturday (December 9th) and defeated Illinois Wesleyan University by a score of 82-75. The non-conference win is the third in a row and fourth in five games for the Foresters.

Lake Forest got off to a good start and a 17-10 lead just six minutes into the game before Wesleyan scored 7 straight to tie the score at 17. The teams played fairly even basketball for the next six-and-a-half minutes and the Foresters led 31-29 with just less than six minutes to go in the first half. It was then that the Titans went on an 18-8 run to close the period.

Lake Forest stayed patient throughout the second half, waiting for an opportunity to close the gap. They trailed 65-59 with less than eight minutes to go before scoring 8 straight points and completing a 23-10 run to finish the game. The Foresters made four of six free throws in the last 23 seconds and held Wesleyan without a point for the final 1:20 to seal the win.

Senior guard Alison Grubbs (Cullom, IL/Tri-Point) tallied 30 points (15 in each half) and led all scorers for the fifth time in seven games this season. Lake Forest is 4-1 in those games. She was 10-of-18 from the field, 4-of-7 from three-point territory, 6-of-7 from the free throw line and also added four steals.

Sophomore Katie McCants (Menasha, WI/Menasha) was second on the squad with 14 points and also pulled down 7 rebounds. Senior Kim Magee (Lake Oswego, OR/Lake Oswego) led the team with 8 rebounds to go with her 7 points, 2 steals and career-high 5 assists.

The 4-3 Foresters will not play again until 2:00 PM on January 6th at Knox College. The team finished the non-conference portion of their schedule 3-3 and will play their next 15 games against Midwest Conference opponents.
