Kandyce Green scored 18
points to lead Lake Forest.
LAKE FOREST, IL - The Forester women's basketball team came from behind to collect its fourth victory to start the season Saturday (December 7), an 80-56 decision at home against Grinnell College. It was the first Midwest Conference game for both teams. Grinnell's overall record fell to 3-1.

Sophomore guard Kandyce Green (Chicago, IL/Marian Catholic) led the Foresters with 18 points. She shot 7-of-15 from the field, including 2-of-3 from beyond the three-point arc.

A pair of forwards, senior Katie McCants (Menasha, WI/Menasha) and sophomore Shannon Clerkin (Barneveld, WI/Barneveld), also scored in double-figures. McCants had 14 points and eight rebounds while Clerkin scored 11 and pulled down a game-high nine boards. Clerkin also added three steals to raise her team-leading total on the season to nine.

Juniors Sherry Wagner (Chicago, IL/Mother McAuley) and Tangara Cross (Garland, TX/Naaman Forest) also posted team-highs. Wagner, a guard, dished out four assists and recorded three steals in addition to tallying seven points and five rebounds. Cross, a forward, blocked three shots and added six rebounds.

Lake Forest out-rebounded the Pioneers 59-40 and shot 43.8% from the floor compared to Grinnell's 25.8%. Neither team shot well from three-point range. The Foresters connected on just 4 of 18 (22.2%) long-range jumpers while the visitors made only 6 of 31 (19.4%). Both squads committed 19 turnovers.

Lake Forest had not played a game in 11 days and the effects of the long layoff were evident early in Saturday's contest. A 9-0 first-half run by the Pioneers gave them an 18-12 lead. After the Foresters cut the margin to four (20-16), the visitors rattled off seven more in a row to extend the lead to 11. The deficit was nine (33-24) with slightly less than five minutes to play before halftime when the Forester defense took over. The home team held Grinnell without another first-half point and scored 10 straight to take a 34-33 lead into intermission.

The Pioneer scoring drought finally ended at the 16:52 mark of the second half. The Foresters led by four at that point and by just three (46-43) with 12 minutes remaining before outscoring their guests 34-13 the rest of the way.

Lake Forest will host Carthage College on Tuesday (December 10) at 7:00 p.m. in its final game of the fall semester, a non-conference match-up against the Lady Reds. The team's next three scheduled games will be played on December 28-30 at the Hawaii Shootout.
