Lake Forest Defeats Lawrence in Five Games at Home
Four Foresters reach double figures in kills

LAKE FOREST, Ill. - The Forester volleyball team rallied for a 30-22, 26-30, 25-30, 30-15, 15-6 victory over visiting Lawrence University Tuesday (October 9) night. Lake Forest raised its overall record on the year to 5-14 and its Midwest Conference mark to 1-2. The Vikings fell to 6-15 overall and 2-4 in the league.

Senior Nicole Baich (Westchester, Ill./Nazareth Academy) led the home team with 18 kills and junior Ashley Cretacci (Mundelein, Ill./Mundelein) added 14. Freshman Mandi Mulliner (Elmhurst, Ill./York) and senior Merissa Martin (Vernon Hills, Ill./Vernon Hills) chipped in with 12 and 11, respectively. Junior Ashleigh Martinez (Chula Vista, Calif./Hilltop) led the squad with 36 assists and Cretacci served up four of the team’s season-high 15 aces.

On defense, junior Lisa Sturgill (Sheboygan, Wis./Sheboygan South) led the Foresters with 37 digs and Martin had 20. Sophomore Regina Cyvas (Downers Grove, Ill./Benet Academy) and Martinez also reached double figures with 12 and 11, respectively. Baich was at least a part of a team-high three blocks while Cretacci and Mulliner were in on two apiece.

Lake Forest will play a pair of MWC matches this weekend (October 12-13). The team will travel to Beloit College Friday night at 7:00 and will return home to face visiting Grinnell College at 1:00 Saturday afternoon. Both matches will be available for viewing at www.midwestconference.tv.
