Foresters Drop Five-Game Match at Ripon
Team sets school record with 136 digs in the match

RIPON, Wis. - The Lake Forest College volleyball team suffered a 30-22, 18-30, 23-30, 33-31, 15-12 loss at Ripon College Thursday (October 4) night. The Foresters fell to 4-14 overall on the season and 0-2 in Midwest Conference play. The Red Hawks are now 9-7 overall and 4-1 in the league.

Forester senior Nicole Baich (Westchester, Ill./Nazareth Academy) pounded out a match-high 20 kills, despite exiting late in the fourth game due to injury. Junior Ashley Cretacci (Mundelein, Ill./Mundelein) was next on the squad with 15 kills and freshman Mandi Mulliner (Elmhurst, Ill./York) added 10. Freshman Deena Blanchard (Sparta, Mich./Sparta) led the team with 32 assists and senior Merissa Martin (Vernon Hills, Ill./Vernon Hills) had three aces.

Defensively, Lake Forest set a team record with 136 digs in the contest, led by junior Lisa Sturgill (Sheboygan, Wis./Sheboygan South) with a match-high 41. Martin added 27, sophomore Regina Cyvas (Downers Grove, Ill./Benet Academy) 16, Blanchard 13, and Cretacci 11. Baich was at least a part of seven blocks, Cretacci six, and Mulliner five.

The Foresters will play their first MWC home match of the season next Tuesday (October 9) night at 7:00 against Lawrence University. Live video webcasts of all conference matches can be viewed over the internet at www.midwestconference.tv.
