Foresters Open Season with Losses at Monmouth College
Four freshmen win a combined eight individual events


MONMOUTH, Ill. - The Lake Forest College swimming & diving teams opened the 2007-08 season at Monmouth College on Saturday (November 3). The Forester women fell 160-89 and the men were defeated 153-105.

Freshmen Lisa Carpenter (Edina, Minn./ Edina) and Whitney Hales (New Iberia, La./Episcopal School of Acadinda) each won a pair of individual events for the Lake Forest women. Carpenter posted the team’s first victory of the season in the 1000-freestyle with a time of 11:29.53 and later added a triumph in the 500-freestyle in 5:46.74. Hales touched the wall first in back-to-back events with times of 26.92 in the 50-freestyle and 58.53 in the 100-freestyle. Classmate Jaden Harkless (Riverside, Calif./Notre Dame) chipped in with a victory in the 200-backstroke with a time of 2:44.59 and joined Carpenter, Hales, and sophomore Ashley DeBo (Savage, Minn./Burnsville) for a win in the meet-ending 200-freestle relay (1:54.71).

Only one Forester male placed first in an individual event and he accomplished the feat in each of his three races. Freshman Michael Mackin (Berwyn, Ill./Fenwick) won the 100-backstroke in 55.47, 200-backstroke in 2:05.35, and 100-butterfly in 57.07. The other victory for the Lake Forest men’s team came in the meet-ending 200-freestyle relay (1:36.01) where Mackin was joined by seniors Michael Ojdana (Cincinnati, Ohio/St. Xavier), Stephen Crabbe (Tucson, Ariz./University), and Nick Primrose (Mayfield, Ohio/Mayfield).

Lake Forest will compete at home for the first time on Friday (November 9) against Carthage College. The meet will begin at 6:00 p.m.
