Foresters End Regular Season at Midwest Invitational
Bueter gets three wins in final tune-up before Nationals

Chelsea Bueter was a three-time winner for the second consecutive week.
WHEATON, IL - Eleven members of the Lake Forest College swimming and diving teams closed out the regular season at the Midwest Invitational hosted by Wheaton College Friday and Saturday (February 20-21). The primary focus at this "last chance meet" was individual effort as the Foresters attempted to record season-best times or gain experience in events they don't typically swim.

As she did all season, first-year swimmer Chelsea Bueter (Swisher, IA/Prairie) paced the Foresters. She was victorious in the 200-Breaststroke (2:27.83), 200-Individual Medley (2:11.72) and 400-Individual Medley (4:41.68). It was the second consecutive week in which Bueter won those three events with a national B-cut qualifying time in each.

Sophomore Marie Pool (Redding, CA/Central Valley) swam one career best and just missed another as she finished in the top six of all three of her events. She was runner-up in the 50-Freestyle (25.30), third in the 200-IM (career-best 2:18.26) and sixth in the 200-Breaststroke (2:40.13).

Three Foresters combined to add four more top-six finishes. Junior Emily Woods (Signal Mountain, TN/Girls Prep), the 2003-04 Midwest Conference butterfly champion, finished second (2:17.51) in the 200-Fly and fourth (1:00.60) in the 100-Fly.

In her first 1650-Freestyle effort of the season, sophomore Erin Colwell (Northfield, MN/Northfield) took fourth in 19:42.74. Classmate Aaron Koop (Newton, KS/Newton) matched that with a fourth place of his own in the 200-Breaststroke (2:17.42).

While the rest of the Foresters must now look ahead to next year, the season is not over for Bueter, whose three best B-cut times are among the twenty fastest in the country in their respective events. She is almost sure to compete in the 200-Breaststroke at the NCAA Championship Meet in St. Louis March 11-13, and she may qualify in the 200 and 400 Individual Medleys as well. The final list of NCAA qualifiers will be released later this week.
