The 2007-08 season will be the Foresters' second with Dan Shelley as the team's head coach.

The 2006-07 Forester men placed third and the women fifth at the Midwest Conference Championship Meet. It was the men's team's 24th consecutive top-three finish in the conference. Individual champions included Chelsea Bueter (400-IM, 200-breaststroke) and MWC Diver of the Year Maggie Rezac (1M diving, 3M diving) on the women's side and Michael Ojdana (200-freestyle) on the men's. In addition, the Lake Forest men placed first in the 200- and 400-freestyle and 400-medley relays.

Rezac went on to a pair of All-American finishes in diving, giving Lake Forest a 29th-place finish at the Women's NCAA Division III Championship Meet.

Shelley spent the previous five seasons as an assistant coach at Brown University in Providence, Rhode Island. He worked with both the men's and women's programs, directed swimmers in each distance group, and was also involved in coordinating the Bears' dryland and weight training programs.

Prior to working at Brown, Shelley was an assistant coach and admissions representative for a year at Hope College, his alma mater. Both the men's and women's teams placed second in the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association that year and finished fourth and 14th in the nation, respectively. Shelley began his collegiate coaching career as a volunteer assistant for two seasons at Penn State University, where the Nittany Lions captured the 1999 Big Ten title.

During his eight year tenure as an assistant coach he guided many student athletes to tremendous success. Included in his previous coaching positions are 38 conference champions in the Big Ten, Ivy League, and Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association, 13 All-Americans, three National Champions and three Olympians. In addition Shelley has worked some of the top camps in the country, including Texas and Penn State.

While a student-athlete at Hope, Shelley earned NCAA Division III All-American honors in 1996 and 1998. He was also the 1998 MIAA champion in the 50-yard freestyle. He graduated from Hope in 1998.
