Foresters Upset University of Chicago
Reifenberg's seventh inning double the difference

LAKE FOREST, IL - Lake Forest College knocked off visiting University of Chicago, 1-0, in the first game of a non-conference softball doubleheader on Wednesday (April 18th). Chicago won the second game, 4-2.

Chicago (18-6) has spent much of the year ranked in the nation's top 25. 

Lake Forest (9-12-1) has won four and tied one in their last six games.

In the first game on Wednesday, Lake Forest's Leigh Anne Furgerson (Carmel, IN/Westfield) and Chicago's Kelly Ostler dualed for six scoreless innings until Jenn Reifenberg (Skokie, IL/Niles West) drove in the only run of the game. Reifenberg ended the game by driving in Kassie Surratt (Rushville, IL/Rushville), who led off the bottom on the seventh inning with a single.

Furgerson went the distance, scattering six hits and striking out four with no walks. Ostler allowed four hits, struck out 11, and also did not walk a batter.

In the second game, Chicago scored two runs in the top of the seventh inning to break open a 2-1 game. The Foresters would score once in their half of the final inning, making the final score 4-2 in favor of Chicago.

Lake Forest's next action will come this weekend at the Midwest Conference Classic in Rockford, Illinois.
