GRINNELL, Iowa - The Lake Forest College men’s tennis team split a pair of Midwest Conference South Division matches at Grinnell College on Saturday (March 29). The Foresters fell 8-1 to the hosts in the morning and defeated Illinois College 8-0 in the afternoon. The team is now 9-3 overall and 1-1 in divisional play.

Forester freshman Jon Flaksman (Northbrook, Ill./Glenbrook North) earned his team’s only point of the match with a 7-5, 3-6, 7-6 (7-4) triumph at #3 singles.

Lake Forest players won both of the doubles matches against Illinois College and earned a point at #3 by default due the Blueboys having only five players. Junior Rocky Tektumanidze (Riverwoods, Ill./ Deerfield) and sophomore Alex Presman (Deerfield, Ill/Deerfield) edged out their opponents 8-6 at the top spot in the lineup and Flaksman teamed with junior Andrew Fretter (Bloomfield, Mich./Cranbrook Kingswood) for an 8-3 victory at #2.

Both teams had just five players available for singles play. Presman, Flaksman, and sophomore Joe Campagna (Elmwood Park, Ill./Fenwick) blanked their opponents at #1, #2, and #4, respectively. Fretter won 6-3, 6-2 at #3 and freshman Chris Paterakos (Wilmette, Ill./New Trier) prevailed 6-2, 6-0 at #5.

The Foresters will play their third of four MWC South Division matches on the schedule next Saturday morning (April 5) at 9:00 against visiting Monmouth College. Lake Forest will also host Carroll College at 3:00 Saturday afternoon. On Sunday (April 6) the host Foresters will take on Rockford College at 10:00 a.m. and Elmhurst College at 3:00 p.m.
