Foresters 6-0 after Three More Victories in South Carolina
Team posts 9-0 wins over Defiance, Hood, and Manhattanville

HILTON HEAD ISLAND, S.C. - The Lake Forest College men’s tennis team raised its record on the year to 6-0 with three mid-week (March 13-14) victories during its Spring Break trip. The Foresters blanked Defiance College 9-0 on Tuesday and both Hood College and Manhattanville College by the same score on Wednesday.

Junior Tim Tierney (Woodstock, Ill./Woodstock) and freshman Alex Presman (Deerfield, Ill/Deerfield) teamed up at number one doubles for all three matches and won 8-2 against Defiance, 8-0 versus Hood, and 8-1 over Manhattanville’s top doubles team. Tierney needed a third set tiebreak for his number one singles victories against Defiance and Manhattanville but defeated Hood’s best 6-1, 6-0. Presman lost just one game against Defiance at number two singles, surrendered no games to Hood, and posted a 6-4, 6-2 win in the match against Manhattanville.

At number two doubles sophomore Andrew Fretter (Bloomfield, Mich./Cranbrook Kingswood) and freshman Joel Hainsfurther (Highland Park, Ill./Highland Park) won 8-5 against Defiance and 8-4 over Manhattanville. Fretter teamed with sophomore Ricky Galvez (Poolville, N.Y./Hamilton Central) for an 8-1 triumph against Hood. Fretter won 6-1, 6-0 at number five singles in the Defiance match and did not lose a single game at that position against Hood or Manhattanville. Hainsfurther posted 6-1, 6-0 and 6-1, 6-2 wins at number four against Defiance and Manhattanville, respectively. Galvez blanked Hood’s number four 6-0, 6-0.

Sophomore Will Hiemenz (St. Louis, Mo./Chaminade) and freshman Joe Campagna (Elmwood Park, Ill./Fenwick) teamed up at number three doubles to defeat Defiance 8-1, Hood 8-0, and Manhattanville 8-1. Hiemenz was nearly perfect at number three singles, prevailing 6-1, 6-0 against Defiance and Manhattanville and 6-0, 6-0 against Hood. Campagna recorded a 6-1, 6-3 triumph at number six singles against Defiance and, like Fretter at the position above him, won 6-0, 6-0 in the other two contests.

Lake Forest’s next two matches will be played at Concordia University (Wis.) on Saturday, March 24. The Foresters will take on Lawrence University at 3:00 p.m. and UW-La Crosse at 6:00 p.m.
