Foresters Win Pair of Mid-Week Matches in Southern California
Team prevails at California Institute of Technology and University of La Verne

CLAREMONT, Calif. - The Lake Forest College men’s tennis team won back-to-back matches in southern California this week. The Foresters triumphed 5-2 at California Institute of Technology on Tuesday (March 11) and 5-4 at the University of La Verne the following day, raising their overall record on the season to 8-1. Caltech fell to 0-8 and La Verne to 4-6.

Lake Forest won four of the six singles matches at Caltech. Freshman Jon Flaksman (Northbrook, Ill./Glenbrook North) outscored his opponent 6-2 in both sets at #3 and junior Andrew Fretter (Bloomfield, Mich./Cranbrook Kingswood) posted a 6-1, 6-4 victory at #4. Sophomore Joe Campagna (Elmwood Park, Ill./Fenwick) blanked Caltech’s #5 player 6-0, 6-0 and freshman Chris Paterakos (Wilmette, Ill./New Trier) prevailed 6-1, 6-3 at #6.

Campagna and Paterakos also teamed up for an 8-3 triumph at #3 doubles. Both coaches agreed not to play #1 and #2 doubles matches due to darkness.

The Foresters took two of the three doubles matches at La Verne. Flaksman and Fretter came away with an 8-5 victory at #2 while Campagna and Paterakos won 8-6 at #3.

The teams split the six singles matches, although a third set was needed for two of Lake Forest’s wins. Flaksman raised his record on the year at #3 to 9-0 with a 6-4, 6-1 victory, Campagna won 3-6, 6-2, 6-2 at #5, and Paterakos posted a 6-2, 3-6, 6-3 triumph at #6.

The Foresters will close out their Spring Break trip at Claremont-Mudd-Scripps Colleges, the fifth-ranked team in the nation (Intercollegiate Tennis Association), at 9:00 Friday morning (March 14).
