Coaching Staff
Coach Kane is set to begin his seventh season directing the Forester men's tennis program. He is the program's all-time winningest coach with 68 career victories. The 2008 team posted a 16-6 overall record and 3-1 mark in Midwest Conference South Division play. Lake Forest placed second in the division and also finished as the runner-up at the MWC Team Championship Tournament. In addition, Forester players placed second at six of the nine positions during the conference tourney. Lake Forest players won more than two-thirds of their singles and doubles matches during the season. The Foresters posted a 17-7 dual match record in 2007 and tied the single-season school record for wins. An 8-1 victory at Lakeland College on April 20 was the 51st triumph of Kane's career, moving him into first place in team history. Lake Forest was also 3-1 in MWC South Division play in 2004 and placed fourth in Kane's first appearance the league's team tournament. With 15 Academic All-Midwest Conference selections in Kane's six seasons, the Foresters have excelled in the classroom as well as on the court. Kane's own list of notable accomplishments as a player in the tennis arena includes three U.S. Tennis Championships, 15 various state titles, a top-10 national ranking as a junior tennis player, a California State High School Championship and a collegiate career at the University of Notre Dame, where he held the team's #1 singles and doubles positions. Despite opening a successful Chicago law firm and later his own private
law practice in Barrington, Illinois, Kane has maintained a strong connection
to the tennis world in both playing and coaching capacities. He was
the head coach of the Dominican University women's team from 1981 to
1983. Despite the squad having never won a match prior to his arrival,
the team tied for the state NAIA Championship and one member qualified
for the NAIA National Championship Tournament in 1983. As a player,
Kane continues to succeed to this day. He achieved a #6 age group ranking
in the Midwest Section of the United States Tennis Association in 2000
and has been ranked #1 and #3 in the Chicago District Father/Daughter
Doubles category the last two years.
