Foresters Finish Third in MWC South after Victory over Knox
Tektumanidze, Sandner, and Tierney each win twice in the match

LAKE FOREST, IL - The Lake Forest College men’s tennis team hosted and defeated fellow Midwest Conference South Division member Knox College 5-2 on Saturday (April 22) to claim third place in the divisional standings. The Foresters are now 11-10 overall on the season and 2-2 in MWC South matches. Knox fell to 8-9 overall and 1-3 in the league.

Lake Forest claimed the doubles point with victories at each of the top two positions. Freshmen Rocky Tektumanidze (Riverwoods, IL/Deerfield) and Andrew Fretter (Bloomfield, MI/Cranbrook Kingswood) blanked the Prairie Fire’s top pair 8-0 and senior Nick Sandner (Lake Bluff, IL/Lake Forest) partnered with sophomore Tim Tierney (Woodstock, IL/Woodstock) for a 9-7 triumph at number two.

Tektumanidze also recorded a convincing 6-0, 6-1 victory at number one singles, Sandner came out on top of a 7-6 (7-2), 6-2 decision at number three, and Tierney prevailed 6-2, 6-4 at number six. The home team also earned a point at number five singles, where freshman Will Hiemenz (St. Louis, MO/Chaminade) dropped the first set 6-4 before winning the second 6-2 and the third-set tiebreak 10-6.

The next competition on the Foresters’ schedule is next weekend’s (April 29-30) MWC Tournament. The league’s singles tournaments will be played on Saturday and the doubles on Sunday.
