Chris Kane Ties School Record for Career Victories in Blanking of Beloit
Joe Campagna posts school record 16th #6 singles win

BELOIT, Wis. - The Lake Forest College men’s tennis team raised its record on the year to 14-5 with a 9-0 victory at Beloit College on Thursday (April 19). The Buccaneers fell to 2-8. The Foresters’ win total is the second-highest in team history behind the 17 victories posted by the squad 2000.

It was the 49th career victory for Head Coach Chris Kane, who tied Chad Eisele (1998-2002) for the highest total in program history.

Junior Tim Tierney (Woodstock, Ill./Woodstock) and freshman Alex Presman (Deerfield, Ill/ Deerfield) won 8-2 at number one doubles, freshman Joel Hainsfurther (Highland Park, Ill./Highland Park) teamed with sophomore Andrew Fretter (Bloomfield, Mich./Cranbrook Kingswood) on an 8-1 triumph at two, and another 8-1 victory was recorded by sophomore Will Hiemenz (St. Louis, Mo./ Chaminade) and freshman Joe Campagna (Elmwood Park, Ill./Fenwick) at three.

Tierney edged out Beloit’s number one singles player 2-6, 6-2, 1-0 (10-4). He is now 4-0 in third-set tiebreakers this season. Presman, Hainsfurther, Fretter, and Campagna blanked their opponents at numbers two, four, five, and six, respectively, and Hiemenz recorded a 6-2, 6-5 win at three. Campagna’s victory at six was his single-season school record 16th at that position.

The Foresters will begin a busy weekend (April 20-22) with a Friday night match at Lakeland College at 6:00. Lake Forest will travel to Carthage College on Saturday, take on the hosts at 10:00 a.m., and face Luther College at 2:00 in the afternoon. Finally, Lake Forest will host Milwaukee School of Engineering Sunday morning at 9:00.
