Foresters Begin 2003 With Victories Over Nation's #15 and #9 Teams
Williams and Panet each record five points on the weekend

LAKE FOREST, IL - The Lake Forest College men's hockey team got the 2003 calendar year off to a great start with a pair of victories over nationally ranked teams from Minnesota. After defeating Concordia College (Moorhead, MN), the #15 team in the nation, 7-3 on Friday (January 3), the Foresters knocked off #9 St. John's University 6-1 on Saturday (January 4). The triumphs give Lake Forest a 9-4-2 overall record on the year and a 6-1-1 mark at Alumni Memorial Fieldhouse. Concordia dropped to 8-4-0 with its loss on Friday and St. John's fell to 9-4-0.

Four sophomores recorded more than one point in Friday's victory. Dave Williams (Thornhill, Ontario/ Thornhill Rattlers) scored the game's first goal and later added a pair of assists. Andrew Francone (Unionville, Ontario/Milton Merchants) scored two goals late in the game and both Scott Douglas (Calgary, Alberta/Calgary Royals) and Ryan Panet (Markham, Ontario/Wexford Raiders) dished out two assists.

Another sophomore, goalkeeper Joel Cameron (Markham, Ontario/Milton Merchants) tallied 24 saves to collect the win and raise his record on the year to 3-2-2.

The Foresters scored three goals in a two-minute span mid-way through the first period. Concordia cut the lead to 3-1 with a shorthanded goal at the 15:36 mark. Lake Forest outscored the Cobbers 3-1 again in the second period and both teams found the back of the net once in the third.

Williams recorded both a goal and an assist on Saturday and Panet scored once and added two assists. Both finished the weekend with five points. Francone and seniors David Evans (Calgary, Alberta/Calgary Royals) and Matt Bruni (Unionville, Ontario/Aurora Tigers) also had both a goal and an assist. Evans and Francone share the team lead with 11 goals, Evans has a team-high 21 points, and Bruni's 15 assists are easily the most on the squad.

Sophomore Cody Brown (Calgary, Alberta/Calgary Canucks) continued his stellar play in goal with a 31-save performance. He is 6-2-0 on the season and has saved 94.4% of opponents' shots on goal.

Evans scored the first period's only goal at the 13:50 mark. Williams scored at 4:18 and Panet at 5:22 in the second the put Lake Forest ahead by three. St. John's took advantage of a power play opportunity six minutes later but two Forester goals early in the third put the game out of reach and another with 1:43 to play finished off the Johnnies.

Lake Forest will take on the Milwaukee School of Engineering twice next weekend (January 10-11). The Foresters will host the Raiders Friday night and Saturday's contest will be played in Brookfield, Wisconsin. Both games will begin at 7:30 p.m.
