Lake Forest Takes Hold of First Place With NCHA Sweep
Foresters win at Superior and St. Scholastica

DULUTH, MN - The Forester men's hockey team remained unbeaten on the season after sweeping a weekend (December 5-6) series on the road against fellow Northern Collegiate Hockey Association opponents. Lake Forest shut out UW-Superior 4-0 Friday night and knocked off the College of St. Scholastica 6-3 Saturday afternoon. The team is 10-0-1 overall and the only NCHA squad to sweep its opening series of league play.

Junior Ryan Panet (Markham, Ontario/Wexford Raiders) scored the Foresters' first goal on Friday at the 13:07 mark of the opening period. Junior Eric Luka (Berwyn, IL/Fenwick) and freshman Tyler Canal (Thunder Bay, Ontario/Stratford Cullitons) assisted on Panet's fifth of the season.

Lake Forest scored twice in the second. Sophomore Cory Wilson's (Calgary, Alberta/Calgary Royals) third of the season came on the power play at the 6:20 mark. Freshman Bryan Lafevor (Ft. Wayne, IN/Chicago Freeze) and senior Bryan O'Connor (Calgary, Alberta/Calgary Canucks) were credited with the assists. O'Connor then scored at 14:03 off assists from freshman Scott Taje (Wetaskiwin, Alberta/Lloydminster Blazers) and senior Chris Rook (Barrie, Ontario/Milton Merchants).

Canal scored the final goal of the game at the 4:57 mark of the third. Fellow freshman Cam Doull (Marwayne, Alberta/Lloydminster Blazers) recorded the assist.

Junior Joel Cameron (Markham, Ontario/Milton Merchants) tallied 30 saves to record his first shutout of the season. He raised his record on the year to 6-0-0 and his save percentage to .949.

Canal opened Saturday's scoring with a pair of first period goals at 1:22 and 12:40. Panet assisted on the first and Doull the second, Canal's fourth of the season. Luka and sophomore Tyler Steen (Calgary, Alberta/Calgary Royals) earned assists on junior Ryan Scapinello's (Guelph, Ontario/Stratford Cullitons) fifth of the year at 15:18 and the Foresters led 3-0 after the opening period.

Scholastica, however, scored three times in the second period and the game was tied going into the third.

O'Connor scored a power play goal with 7:29 remaining on the clock to regain the lead for the visitors. Freshman Jordan Kniaziew (Leamington, Ontario/Leamington Flyers) was credited with the assist on O'Connor's team-high seventh of the year. O'Connor assisted on a short-handed goal, Taje's fourth score of the year, with 4:17 left and junior Robin Charest (Cabano, Quebec/Hebron Academy) added his sixth score of the season from Steen with 3:09 to play.

Junior Cody Brown (Calgary, Alberta/Calgary Canucks) recorded 31 saves in the victory.

The Foresters, who entered the week as the nation's seventh-ranked team, will host the Milwaukee School of Engineering at 7:30 Tuesday (December 9) night in the team's final game of the fall semester.
