Foresters Fall To Washington University in Season Opener
Bertuca leads defense with a dozen tackles
LAKE FOREST , IL- The Lake Forest College football team kicked off the 2006 season on Saturday (September 2) with a 21-6 loss to Washington University . It was the second time the two schools have met on the gridiron, and the Bears won that game 11-0 in 1901.
Neither squad was able to punch the ball into the end zone in the first half, but the visitors stormed out of intermission and scored twice in the third quarter to post a 14-0 advantage heading into the final frame.

Dan Carter racked up 50 yards on a pair of catches and a touchdown in his Forester debut.
Washington added its third score of the contest midway through the fourth, but the Foresters responded with 3:36 remaining in the game after junior quarterback Jeff Ziemnik (Oswego, Ill./Oswego) found freshman receiver Dan Carter (Arlington Heights, Ill./St. Viator) for a 14-yard scoring pass.
In his first career start, Ziemnik completed five of 13 passes for 71 yards, and picked up 18 yards on a dozen carries. His favorite target was Carter and junior Tom Cirone (Chicago , Ill. /Niles Notre Dame), who finished with a pair of catches each and 50 and 21 yards, respectively.
Defensively, senior Louis Bertuca (Chicago, Ill. /Fenwick) tallied a game-high 12 tackles, with 2.5 coming behind the lone of scrimmage. Matt Lawler (Chicago, Ill. /St. Rita), Ed Kidd (Round Lake,Ill. /Buffalo Grove), and James Werner (Oak Lawn, Ill. /Marist), finished behind Bertuca with seven stops apiece. Lawler and Kidd each added an interception, and Werner recorded Lake Forest 's lone sack.
The Foresters will be back in action on Saturday (September 9) at Ripon College to open Midwest Conference play. Kickoff time is scheduled for 1:30 pm.
