Remembering Friends
Those of us who graduated during the early 1950s are beginning to experience more often the hand of the grim reaper. I was saddened to read of the passing of Neenah Stamberg Whipple '51 and James Valentine '52 (Summer 2007, "In Memoriam"). Neenah, a tall, good-looking blond, and I were active in a number of radio broadcasts over WKRS Waukegan. The shows were directed by Professor Arlene Bryn Cole.
James "Jimmy" Valentine was a fun-loving buddy during our years at Lake Forest College - a friendship that continued for many years after graduation.
As for myself, I've been married to Martha for 46 years. I have two sons, play lots of tennis, and recently took up golf, which I admit may have been a mistake.

Editor's Note: The College celebrated its biggest and best Homecoming ever October 4-7 by commemorating the school's sesquicentennial year - which wrapped up at the end of 2007 - and by launching a $100 million campaign to double the endowment, increase the Annual Fund, and build new facilities. More than 4,000 alumni returned to campus to catch up with old friends, watch the Foresters beat Lawrence University, and attend various reunions and events. Here's what some of you had to say about the weekend.
Great Direction
I was thoroughly impressed with the events that I attended at Homecoming. I was able to attend the Thomas Friedman lecture on October 7 and could tell that every detail was thought through carefully and executed in a perfect fashion. His lecture was interesting and thought provoking, one that will go down in the College's history.
Additionally, I am excited about the new campaign that was unveiled on Friday afternoon and feel confident this will lead the College into a great direction unlike any we have ever seen before.
Congratulations on a very dynamic weekend.

A Success
Maybe I have a special perspective since I do event planning, and I may be one of the people who truly understands how much work goes into all the millions of details required to make a sesquicentennial weekend a success! Congratulations to you all, and to all the others who helped you, on a great weekend. Thanks for all your hard work and caring.

Looking Forward to Next Year
I just wanted to say what a great job you all did this weekend. I know big events like these are hard and a ton of work, and it was so apparent that you put your all into this very special weekend. I have to say that this was the most enjoyable Homecoming I have participated in, and I'm so looking forward to next year. Congratulations!
