As headlines tout stories like First Lady Michelle Obama's vegetable garden, ethanol's impact on the corn supply, the growing popularity of celebrity chefs, and outbreaks of food-borne diseases, it's clear that food is more than what we put on the table — it has implications that span issues like politics, economics, culture, health, and the environment.

Food is also what connects the seven alumni who are featured in the following pages. Spectrum found out what they are up to and how their lives intersect with food.
