How to include Lake Forest College in your will
A bequest is simple and convenient way to ensure a dynamic and sustainable future for the College. Here is sample language to use in your will. Your advisor can provide the best wording to fit your circumstances.
I give to Lake Forest College, an educational institution located in Lake Forest, Illinois ___________________, to be used for ____________________.
Insert a percentage of the estate, the residue of the estate, a percentage of the residue, a specific dollar amount, specific property (such as a marketable security or your residence), a contingent gift or a portion of a split interest arrangement created by the will.
Statement Regarding Use of the Gift
Unrestricted gifts gift are the most useful, allowing the College to allocate funds wherever the need is greatest. For an unrestricted gift, insert “the general purposes of the College.”
Restricted gifts will support a specific program or purpose that reflects your personal or professional interest. If the gift is to be restricted in any way, add clear language describing the restriction and include the following language:
"..... for so long as the Board of Trustees of Lake Forest College determines that the need exists. Should the need no longer exist, said Board of Trustees may, in its sole discretion, direct the use of my bequest for a purpose determined to be in the College’s best interest and as similar as practical to the purpose I have described above.”
Providing Documents
To ensure that your charitable intent is carried out to the fullest extent possible, you are encouraged to provide us the sections of wills and other estate planning documents that pertain to the College. If the gift will fulfill a pledge, documentation will be used to verify the gift.
