Reflections on Leadership, Ethics and Business 11/19

Mathis, chairman of Kemper Insurance Companies and former chairman and CEO of Kemper Insurance Companies and Kemper Corporation will deliver a talk titled "Reflections on Leadership, Ethics and Business" at Lake Forest College on Thursday, November 19 at 7:30 p.m. in the Lily Reid Holt Memorial Chapel. The public is invited to attend free of charge.

Mr. Mathis is chairman of Kemper Insurance Companies. He has represented the company around the world from Belgium to Tokyo and risen from a sales trainee to the executive suite. His career has included assignments with both Kemper Insurance Companies and Kemper Corporation, its former publicly owned affiliate. Mr. Mathis joined Kemper’s San Francisco office in 1956 and worked his way through the company. In 1978, he was elected president of Kemper’s National/International department. In 1982, he became president & CEO of Kemper Reinsurance. In 1988, he was elected to the boards of Kemper Corporation and Kemper Insurance Companies. In 1992, he was named chairman and CEO of Kemper Corporation. In 1995, Kemper Corporation was sold and the boards of the Kemper Insurance Companies designated him to be chairman and CEO when the sale was effected. Currently, he holds the title of Chairman and is semi-retired.

Mr. Mathis received his bachelor’s degree from Lake Forest College and currently is a member of their board of trustees. He also serves on the boards of directors of The Mosaic Company and Thomas Group, Inc., and is also chairman of the James S. Kemper Foundation.

Lily Reid Holt Memorial Chapel is located on the College’s Middle Campus at the intersection of Sheridan and College roads in Lake Forest. Campus is accessible via Metra.
