Theater presents The House of Bernarda Alba 11/12 - 14
news story imageLake Forest, Ill.- The Theater Department at Lake Forest College presents The House of Bernarda Alba on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday, November 5, 6 and 7 and November 12, 13 and 14. Performances are at 8 p.m. nightly with a 2 p.m. matinee on Saturdays. All shows will be held in the Allan Carr Theater in Hixon Hall on the College’s South Campus.

Maggie Speer, well known for her intense dramatic style, directs Frederico Garcia Lorco’s dark and mysterious The House of Bernarda Alba. This play, which features an all female cast, is set in pre-Fascist Spain, 1935. Religion, tradition, fear, and suspicion drive this over-protective mother and her five daughters to monstrous acts. The tension in this classic 20th century play is overwhelming and oppressing. Locked in the house together for seven years of mourning; the women taunt and toy with each other's emotions, secret longings, and frustrated lives. This beautifully poetic work by Lorca, written just before he was murdered by the Fascists invading his home in Andalusia, promises to be a shattering, explosive production.

Tickets are $7 for general admission, $3 for senior citizens and students. Garrick Player productions are free to Lake Forest students, faculty, and staff. For reservations and information please call 847-735-6169.
