Alumnus kicks off Biology Seminar Series 10/8
news story imageLake Forest, Ill. – Alumnus Charles Flower '04, will deliver a public lecture at Lake Forest College on Thursday, October 8 at 4:15 pm.

Aimed at a general audience, Flower’s presentation titled “Labile Carbon in Forest Ecosystems: Production, Allocation, and Drivers” will be held in Meyer Auditorium, Hotchkiss Hall. The public is welcome to attend free of charge. A pre-seminar reception will be held at 4 p.m. Please call 847-24-3100 for more information.

Flower is a PhD candidate at the University of Illinois at Chicago in the Department of Biology. He received his B.A. in Biology and History from Lake Forest College, and M.S. in Biology from the Ohio State University. Currently, his research focuses on the impacts of the invasive emerald ash borer on forest ecosystems. Flower has two publications, and three in progress, and he has presented work at conferences nationwide, including California, Michigan, New Mexico, and Indiana.

Flower is currently a graduate assistant at the University of Illinois at Chicago and an NSF LEAP IGERT Fellow. He has served on the GEES Seminar Committee and is a referee for New Phytologist and Annals of Botany.

The event is sponsored by the Lake Forest College Biology Department, and the College's Center for Chicago Programs.
