Lake Forest Ill. - Noted American historian and Pulitzer Prize-winning author James McPherson will deliver a presentation titled “Lincoln and The West,” organized in conjunction with the year-long national commemoration of the Bicentennial of Abraham Lincoln. The presentation is sponsored by the Oppenheimer Family Foundation and Lake Forest College and will be held on Thursday, October 8 at 8 p.m. in the First Presbyterian Church of Lake Forest. James McPherson has been called the preeminent living expert on the American Civil War. He is the George Henry Davis '86 Professor of American History Emeritus at Princeton University as well as a past president of the American Historical Association and Protect Historic America. He has published numerous volumes on the Civil War, including the Pulitzer Prize-winning
Battle Cry of Freedom, Crossroads of Freedom (which was a New York Times bestseller),
Abraham Lincoln and the Second American Revolution , and
For Cause and Comrades: Why Men Fought in the Civil War , which won the Lincoln Prize. Two years ago the Pritzker Military Library, based in Chicago, awarded him its very first award for lifetime achievement. Most recently Professor McPherson is the author of
