
The 5th annual Current Advances in Psychology (CAP) Colloquia Series will begin on Wednesday, September 9th at 4:00pm in Meyer Auditorium with a lecture by Dr. Jennifer Richeson. The presentation titled “"Navigating Interracial Interactions: Costs, Consequences, & Possibilities" is free and open to the public.
Dr. Richeson is an associate professor of psychology at Northwestern University and is a 2007 recipient of a MacArthur Fellowship (often referred to as the Genius Award). She earned her Ph.D. in social psychology from Harvard University.
In her research, Dr. Richeson explores issues surrounding prejudice, stereotyping, and intergroup relations. As noted on her Web site, some current lines of research include:
1) manifestations of racial bias in mind, brain, and behavior
2) cognitive, affective, and physiological consequences of "managing" a stigmatized identity
3) contending with subtle v. blatant racial bias
4) processes of social categorization
She is the author of more than 30 peer-reviewed research articles and her research is funded by the National Institute of Mental Health and the National Science Foundation.
The CAP Series continues on Tuesday, October 27th with Dr. Katherine Kinzler (University of Chicago) and Tuesday, November 10th with Dr. Douglas Medin (Northwestern University).
The series is sponsored by Psi Chi, the Psychology Department, and the Center for Chicago Programs.
