Campus memorial will honor alumni veterans
Lake Forest, Ill. - Lake Forest College is pleased to announce that it will install a memorial honoring alumni who have served in the armed forces on Thursday, May 7 at 4 p.m. The memorial will feature a granite stone and plaque.

Patrick Casten ’09 spearheaded the effort, and he worked with President Stephen Schutt to secure the funds.

“The memorial is a great thing to have on campus,” says Casten. “It will allow alumni veterans to have a place of gathering, in addition to letting the entire college community know how important the service of veterans truly is.”

Several alumni veterans, College trustees and friends, the College’s student government, and the Lake Forest Post of the American Legion cumulatively donated more than $5,000 to pay for the memorial, which has been endorsed and supported by the Lake Forest College Alumni Association.

“Personally, this project has been the best experience of my time here at the college,” adds Casten. “I have had the benefit to witness the pride, dedication, and camaraderie that goes into military service. Supporting our military is essential, and this project is the perfect synergy of the College’s appreciation of its alumni veterans and the College’s connection to the U.S. military.”

Due to the College’s long history, in addition to the sparse records of those who have served in the military, the plaque will not list any names.

Lake Forest College is a national liberal arts institution located 30 miles north of downtown Chicago. The College has 1,400 students representing 45 states and 69 countries.
