Emily Zender '10 presents at national communications conference
Lake Forest, Ill. - Emily Zender '10 was among the 30 students from colleges and universities nationwide who presented at the Undergraduate Honors Conference, held from April 2-5, 2009 at DePauw University. The conference, sponsored by the Department of Communication and Theatre at DePauw, offers these students the opportunity to present their work and have it workshopped with scholars of national prominence.

Zender’s paper, written for Assistant Professor of Communications Rachel Whidden’s Rhetorical Criticism course, analyzes Senator John McCain's Republican nomination speech. “Specifically,” Whidden explains, “the paper explores how McCain uses his prisoner-of-war story from the past to enhance his credibility in the present and argue for his success in the future.”

DePauw University's annual National Undergraduate Honors Conference is designed to encourage undergraduate scholarship and to facilitate interaction between undergraduates and major scholars in the communication arts and sciences. Papers represent individual research and deal with any subject falling within the general area of the communication arts and sciences such as rhetoric, interpersonal communication, theatre, mass communication, and organizational communication. More information about the conference can be found at: www.depauw.edu/honors/uhc.
