news story imageLake Forest, Ill. – Daniel McNabney ‘04, and current Ph.D. candidate at the University of Rochester will give a public lecture at Lake Forest College on April 13th at 4:15 p.m.

Aimed at a general audience, Daniel McNabney’s presentation “Genetics of Speciation: Insights from Fly Behavior” will be held in Meyer Auditorium in Hotchkiss Hall. The public is welcome to attend free of charge. A pre-seminar reception will be held at 3:45 p.m. Please call the Biology Department at 847-735-5090 for more information.

Daniel McNabney is currently working with the Department of Biology at the University of Rochester under the supervision of Dr. Allen Orr, a world-renowned evolutionary geneticist who co-authored the book Speciation. Dr. Orr’s lab investigates the genetics of speciation and the genetics of adaptation. McNabney’s research focuses on the genetic basis for reproductive isolation. Understanding reproductive isolation is vital to understanding how evolutionary forces shape differences between species. McNabney is a recipient of several teaching awards, including the Biology Department Teaching Award (University of Rochester) and the Edward Peck Curtis Award for Excellence in Graduate Student Teaching (University of Rochester).

This is a truly special opportunity to hear from a Lake Forest College science alumnus who began his research career while he was a biology student at the college. He participated in two research labs (Dr. Houde and Dr. Kirk) studying telomere replication and guppy mate choice while serving as an active member of the campus community.

This event is sponsored by the Biology Department, Eukaryon, Beta Beta Beta, and the Center for Chicago Programs.

Lake Forest College is a national liberal arts institution located 30 miles north of downtown Chicago. The College has 1,400 students representing 45 states and 69 countries.
