Forty-first annual Sigma Xi lecture 4/19
Lake Forest, Ill. - The Lake Forest College chapter of Sigma Xi, The Scientific Research Society, will hold its 41st annual lecture on Sunday, April 19th at 5:00pm in Meyer Auditorium.

The lecture is an exciting double-bill that is co-sponsored by Psi Chi and the CAP Colloquia Series. The lecture is free and open to the public. Please call 847-234-3100 for more information.

Dr. Sian Beilock - “Expert Performance: From Action to Perception to Understanding”

Dr. Tom Carr - “Choking, Stereotype Threat, & the Phenomenology of Control”

Dr. Beilock is an associate professor of psychology at the University of Chicago. She earned a pair of Ph.D.s from Michigan State University—one in Psychology and one in Kinesiology. Dr. Beilock’s research examines the cognitive and neural processes that govern skill success and failure. She is the author of more than 35 peer-reviewed research articles and her research is funded by the National Science Foundation and the U.S. Department of Education.

Dr. Carr is a professor of psychology at Michigan State University and an alumnus (and generous supporter) of Lake Forest College (physics; 1970). He earned his Ph.D. in psychology at Vanderbilt University. Dr. Carr’s research explores how skill acquisition and performance are influenced by factors such as attention, expertise, pressure, and other cognitive and motivational stressors. He is the author of more than 70 peer-review articles and book chapters and his research is funded by the National Science Foundation.

Dr. Carr served as Dr. Beilock’s Ph.D. advisor at Michigan State and they continue to be frequent collaborators.

Meyer Auditorium is located in Hotchkiss Hall on the College's Middle Campus. Ample parking is available and campus is accessible via Metra.
