
Lake Forest, Ill. - Dr. James Surmeier, professor and chairman of physiology at Northwestern Feinberg School of Medicine and author of the book
Cellular and Molecular Mechanisms of the Neostriatum, will deliver a public lecture at Lake Forest College on Monday, October 6 at 4:15 pm.
Aimed at a general audience, Dr. Surmeier’s presentation titled “Why do neurons die in Parkinson's disease and how can it be stopped?” will be held in Meyer Auditorium, Hotchkiss Hall. Dr. Surmeier's lab is investigating the biological cause for Parkinson's disease and ways in which it can be treated. He has published over 110 scientific articles in the field of neuroscience.
Dr. Surmeier was a recipient of the Jacob Javits Neuroscience Investigator (NINDS) Award. He has served as a member of the Society of Neuroscience and as a frequent “ad hoc” editorial reviewer for the
Journal of Neurophysiology, Neuron, Science, and Nature and is a member of the N.I.A.A.A. Board of Counselors.
