Voices from Darfur 4/23
Personal Accounts of Genocide
Lake Forest, Ill. - On Wednesday, April 23 Lake Forest College will host a screening of the short film "Voices From Darfur" followed by a presentation by two Sudanese refugees, Ibrahim Adam and Mohammed Abdelrahman, who will share their personal experiences concerning the Darfur genocide. This event will take place in the Lily Reid Holt Memorial Chapel at 7:30 p.m. The public is welcome to attend free of charge.
The event, sponsored by Lake Forest College STAND (a student anti-genocide coalition) will provide information about the Darfur genocide, as well as steps that individuals can take to help end the atrocities. After the presentation, there will be a reception in Reid Hall where attendees may speak to the refugees and Lake Forest College STAND members.
Lily Reid Holt Memorial Chapel is located on the College's Middle Campus at the corner of Sheridan and College roads in Lake Forest. Campus is accessible via Metra. Call 847-234-3100 for more information.
Cautionary notes: The presentations are often painful for the speakers to divulge, so all attendees are encouraged to exercise their sensitivity when asking questions and listening to the presentation. There are some graphic images in the film, and the nature of genocide implies violence and tragedy, so attendees are asked to not bring their children.
