A Voyeurist’s Approach to Cell Biology: Revealing Cell Behavior Using Live Cell Imaging
Lake Forest, Ill. - Dr. Kathleen Green, a world authority on cell-cell adhesion, will deliver a public lecture at Lake Forest College on Wednesday, September 19, at 4:15 pm.

Aimed at a general audience, Dr. Green’s presentation titled “A Voyeurist’s Approach to Cell Biology: Revealing Cell Behavior Using Live Cell Imaging” will be held in Meyer Auditorium, Hotchkiss Hall. The public is welcome to attend free of charge. A pre-seminar reception will be held at 4:00 pm. Please call 847-735-5090 for more information.

Dr. Green is the J.L. Mayberry Professor of Pathology, Professor of Pathology and Dermatology at Northwestern University. She received her undergraduate degree in biology at Pomona College and her Ph.D. from Washington University. She conducted her postdoctoral work at Northwestern University Medical School, where she later became a faculty member.

Kathleen Green’s laboratory studies cell adhesion (how cells stick together), which plays a crucial role in embryogenesis, differentiation into adult tissues, and would healing. In particular, her laboratory is interested in the function and regulation of intracellular junction molecules in desmosomes and adherens junctions that act to mediate cell-cell adhesion and attachment of the cytoskeleton to the cell surface.

Among her numerous honors is her election to Phi Beta Kappa, and she is a Keith Porter Fellow and a fellow of the American Association of Advancement of Science. In addition, she has received an ACS Faculty Research Award and holds the J.L. Mayberry Professorship of Pathology.

The event is sponsored by the Lake Forest College Biology Department, Beta Beta Beta (the national undergraduate biology honorary society), Eukaryon (an undergraduate journal of life science scholarship), and the Center for Chicago Programs.
