Brain Awareness Week 2005
Lake Forest, Ill. - Brain Awareness Week at Lake Forest College is an annual event that includes informational sessions for the College community and public lectures. This educational community outreach event is the collaborative effort of students and faculty at Lake Forest College studying Brain, Mind, and Behavior.

In addition to the November 7 keynote address “Sleepless in America” the public is welcome to attend these and other events:

Wednesday, November 9
4:00 p.m. in Meyer Auditorium, Hotchkiss Hall
“Why don’t people just say what they mean? On the psychology of figurative language.” Presented by Dr. Herbert Colston professor of psychology and chair of the department at the University of Wisconsin-Parkside. Over the past 10 years, he has explored how people comprehend figurative language and has published over 25 journal articles and book chapters. In 2004, he co-edited a book titled, Figurative language comprehension: Social and cultural influences, and he has another co-edited book currently in press, Irony in language and thought: A cognitive science reader.

Thursday, November 10
6:30 p.m. in Meyer Auditorium, Hotchkiss Hall
“Brain, Mind, and Behavior Forum” Seven professors from the College discuss their interdisciplinary research interests on different aspects of the human mind.

Lake Forest College is a national liberal arts institution located 30 miles north of downtown Chicago. The College has 1,400 students representing 47 states and 53 other countries.
