Academic Scholarships

Academic scholarships are offered at the time of admission, and do not require an additional application.  They are based on your admission application, transcript, graded writing sample, and academic recommendations.  The scholarship review process will include a thorough and careful review of the program of study, record of achievement, the testimony and recommendation of at least one teacher, and assessment of your writing skills.

Descriptions of each scholarship are provided below.  All students are limited to one academic scholarship.  Transfer students may receive either the Deerpath or Phi Theta Kappa Scholarships.  International students may receive either the Deerpath, Dean's, International Trustee or UWC Scholarships.

Scholarships submitted after the admission deadlines will be considered as funds are available.

Admission Deadlines:

  • December 1  Early Action, Early Decision, Spring Transfers
  • February 15   Regular Decision
  • June 15          Fall Transfers


First-Year Students
Trustee Scholarships provide awards of $16,000 per year. Students with exceptional academic promise will be nominated by an admission officer to the Scholarship Committee. In recent years, Trustee Scholars have had at least a 3.9 GPA, 32 ACT/1410 SAT and in the top 10% of their class. International students may be eligible for the International Trustee Scholarship. Scholarship renewal requires students to maintain a 3.0 each year. 

Presidential Scholarships provide awards up to $12,000 per year.  Minimum qualifications are a grade point average of 3.6 on a 4.0 scale or a class rank that is in the top 20%, and an ACT of 28 (SAT of 1230).  International students are not eligible for this scholarship.  Scholarship renewal requires a cumulative grade point average of at least 2.5 after the first year and 2.75 thereafter.

Dean's Scholarships provide awards up to $10,000 per year. Minimum qualifications are a grade point average of 3.4 on a 4.0 scale or a class rank that is in the top 25%, and an ACT of 25 (SAT of 1140). Scholarship renewal requires a cumulative grade point average of at least 2.5 after the first year and 2.75 thereafter.

Deerpath Scholarships provide awards up to $8,500 per year.  Minimum qualifications are a grade point average of 3.2 on a 4.0 scale or a class rank that is in the top 30%.  Scholarship renewal requires a cumulative grade point average of at least 2.5 after the first year and 2.75 thereafter. 

Lake Forest College- Chicago Public Schools (CPS) Scholarships provide twenty-five full tuition scholarship awards. Scholarships will be offered based on the strength of the student's application, transcript, recommendations, interview and writing sample.  Scholarships will be awarded to Chicago Public School students who meet our selective admission requirements and have a household family income of less than $45,000.   Families must verify their income by submitting a copy of their 2006 federal tax return when applying for admission.  Submitting the FAFSA is required and the scholarship will cover the remaining costs of tuition once federal, state and any institutional awards have been applied.  Scholarship renewal requires a cumulative grade point average of at least 2.5 after the first year and 2.75 thereafter.


International Student Scholarships
United World College Scholarships are offered to students from the UWC program and include the Davis United World Colleges Scholarship and the Global Enrichment Scholarship.  Both are awarded on the basis of academic achievement and financial need. The total of all scholarship funds offered to UWC students ranges from $25,000 to $38,000 per year.  UWC transfer students may also apply. More information.

International Trustee Scholarships recognize international students with exceptional academic credentials and provides scholarships of up to $21,500. More information.


Transfer Students
Deerpath Transfer Scholarships provide awards up to $10,000 per year to transfer students.  Minimum qualifications include a college grade point average of 3.5 on a 4.0 scale in a challenging program of college or university studies.  

Phi Theta Kappa Scholarships provide awards of half-tuition to transfer students who have their Associate of Arts degree and hold current membership in this international honor society. More Information.


Outside Scholarships
Outside Scholarships are those funds (scholarship, grant, etc.) that comes from a source other than Lake Forest College.  If you receive such a scholarship you must report the funds to the Office of Financial Aid.  These "outside scholarships" will normally reduce the amount your family pays and the amount of any need-basd grant offered by the College.  Want to explore the possibilities?  Visit our Outside Scholarships Page.
