Applying for Financial Aid, Fall 2012:
Step 1: Apply for a merit-based scholarship
- Academic Scholarships are awarded without a separate application.
- Forester Scholarships require a separate application, which must be received before your financial aid application is considered complete
- Please direct all scholarship questions to your admission officer.
- If applying only for scholarship funds, do not complete Steps 2-4.
Step 2. Complete the FAFSA
(Free Application for Federal Student Aid)
- Lake Forest College’s FAFSA code is 001706
- Review the 2012-2013 FAFSA Worksheet to help you prepare
- Can be completed before your tax return is done, using estimated 2011 income
Step 3. Complete “Special Circumstance” forms if necessary - optional
Complete only the form(s) which apply to your family:
- educational expense for a parent or younger sibling ($2000 or more)
- healthcare expense ($3000 or more in 2011 or 2012)
- income change (a change of 20% or more vs. 2011)
- unusual expenses ($2000 or more)

Important Notes:

Do not send your tax return to our office. If required, we will ask you for an IRS Transcript, available online, by submitting IRS Form 4506T-EZ, or by calling the IRS (800-908-9946). If you use the IRS Data Retrieval Tool you will not need to provide this transcript!

The CSS Profile is not required from U.S. citizens and permanent residents.
