Admitted Students Fall 2012: Registration Instructions
Students take four courses per semester. As a first-year student, one of them will be your First-Year Studies course. The other three for fall semester are up to you to choose with guidance from your advisor.
Here’s all you need to know about registering for courses.
1. Make your First-Year Studies course selections.
April 2 - May 1
Beginning April 2, go to my.lakeforest to read about and select five First-Year Studies (FIYS) courses of interest to you from a list of 25 in a variety of disciplines. On or about June 8, you will receive a letter from the professor who will teach the FIYS course to which you have been assigned. He or she will also be your first-year advisor.
2. Prepare to choose your three remaining fall courses.
June 8 - 20
Take time to prepare for your discussion with your advisor about the courses you wish to take in the fall. Here’s how:
- Familiarize yourself with the General Education Curriculum
- Think about what academic interests and abilities you currently possess and those you wish to acquire
- Review the general information about registration, prerequisites, and placement tests
- Find out how to apply your IB and AP credits
3. Contact and consult your advisor.
June 20 - 30
Your advisor, whose name and contact information you will have gotten in the letter with your First-Year Studies course, will discuss with you your interests, abilities, and desired majors, as well as answer questions you have about prerequisites, courses, any AP or IB credits you may have, and whether you should take a placement test. Contact can be in the form of email or phone call, and it can be initiated by you or the professor. Don’t wait for him or her to contact you; take the initiative and make an early good impression.
4. Register for your three remaining fall courses.
July 2 - 13
Check back here for the link to registration. It will be open between July 2 and 13.
