Portia Lowe Promoted to Associate Athletic Director
Set to begin fourth year on Lake Forest College staff

Portia Lowe
LAKE FOREST, Ill. - Lake Forest College Athletic Director Jackie Slaats announced Friday (July 25) the promotion of Portia Lowe from Assistant Athletic Director to Associate Athletic Director, effective immediately. She fills the position vacated by Karen Hermann at the beginning of July and the search for an additional athletic department administrator is ongoing.

Lowe came to Lake Forest in 2005 as part of the NCAA Strategic Alliance Grant program. She had spent the previous year as Interim Assistant Director of Athletics at Vassar College in Poughkeepsie, New York, and the two before that at Smith College in Northampton, Massachusetts, as part of the NCAA Division III Ethnic Minority and Women’s Internship Grant Program.

Lowe, a graduate of Trinity University in San Antonio, Texas, earned her Masters degree in Business Administration from North Park University in 2007.

While Lowe’s contributions at Lake Forest are numerous, among the most notable is a stronger relationship with Forester alumni, which is especially visible during each sport’s Alumni Day. She has also been instrumental in the development of the College’s Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC), both at the conference and national level. In addition, Lowe’s efforts to bolster the membership of booster clubs for current students (Forester Fanatics) and children (Cub Club) have created larger crowds at contests and increased school spirit throughout the campus community.

“This is a well-deserved promotion,” began Slaats. “It says a lot about Portia’s talents and abilities and I hope she is as proud as I am of all that she has accomplished. Portia has been a valuable asset to our department for three years and I look forward to having her by my side as we take major steps toward further establishing our athletic and academic excellence.”

“Lake Forest offers me a chance to live my athletic administrative dream in a fun and dynamic setting,” commented Lowe. “I’m excited to continue building upon the relationships and successes we have had here in the past three years and I look forward to working with Jackie toward achieving several of the College’s goals. Forester Athletics is headed in a positive direction and I am honored to be a part of the process.”
