Writing and Thinking Workshop > General Information

A Community of Writers

This two-week summer workshop for high-school students is part of a long-standing national program established by the National Writing and Thinking Network. You will live on the Lake Forest College campus and spend much of your time with a small group of students in informal workshops mentored by an experienced writer/teacher who will model strategies for exploring your own ideas. Living in the residence hall with roommates, eating in the cafeteria, and working with successful college students on your writing in the evening will give you a taste of college life.

Lake Forest College

With its 100 acres of wooded areas and walking paths, the Lake Forest College campus offers an ideal setting for a summer writers' colony. On campus, you will have access to the College's computer center and library, as well as wood-paneled lounges where writers will gather and read their work.

The Chicago Experience

imageYou will be a short train ride from Chicago where you will explore and write at such places as the Art Institute of Chicago, the Chicago Botanic Garden, and the open-air Ravinia Music Festival- all with new friends who share your interests.
