May 2008 China Program Blog page

Every May, a group from Lake Forest College travels to China to learn about the history, culture, religion, politics, and society of the emerging nation. Led by Professor Shewei Chen this year, the group experienced two contrasting events in China: the build up to this summer's Olympic Games, and the devastating earthquake that shook the Sichuan province. While the group was far from the site when it struck, they made donations to the victims and experienced a nation dealing with one of the worst natural disasters in its history. To find out about the group's adventures from their recent three-week class in China – from visiting the Great Wall to riding yaks in Lijiang – take a look at these journal entries and photographs. Please check back in the next few weeks for more updates.
