ABOUT THE COVER ARTWORK
“DEOXYRIBONUCLEIC ARBOR” BY KAT ANDREWS ’16

When deciding on the image for the cover of Eukaryon, I asked advice from my peers. I wanted to see how others interpreted the theme The Origin of Eukaryon. I received many opinions on which direction to take, but instead of choosing just one, I incorporated several ideas to enhance the overall theme. This complete theme encompasses the circle of life, the tree of life, and our genetic roots. I also took inspiration from several images that are available online on these themes, such as one work of art by Rene Campbell. Nearly all my art work is done in black micron pen, and is completely free hand. While I don’t claim the rights to the themes I used, the combination and incorporation of each aspect the piece contains are my own, as is my interpretation of each. The cover of Eukaryon is original work.
