ABOUT THE COVER ARTWORK
“DEOXYRIBONUCLEIC ARBOR” BY KAT ANDREWS ’16

“When I started designing the cover for Eukaryon, I had no idea where to begin. Our theme for this year was “On the Origin of Eukaryon”. I started to ponder what the word origin meant to me. It wasn’t until I was midway through my morning biology lecture that I had an idea: DNA. But, something held me back. While our theme relates back to our journal’s roots, the journal has evolved into something more. With the idea of using DNA in mind, I grabbed a micron pen and began to draw its helical pattern. This pattern then morphed into a tree and soon filled out, encompassing other natural elements and organisms. The end result was a combination of DNA, the tree of life, and the circle of life. These three elements conveyed my interpretation of our theme.”
