Recommended Course Schedules for Pre-Health Students

The following course schedules are offered by the HPAC as a useful starting point for First-year and Sophomore pre-health students.  In general, these schedules assume that the student is planning to begin applications in the spring/summer following the junior year in order to matriculate in the professional school in the fall immediately following graduation.  Obviously individual circumstances – a desire to study abroad, the number of AP math and science credits, summer courses, or the decision to delay application to the spring of the senior year – will require changes to the schedules proposed and may increase or decrease the pace at which the coursework must be completed.

In these recommended schedules the HPAC offers the best option for students to take all of their pre-medical coursework at Lake Forest College, which is preferred by the HPAC and by health professional schools.  In individual cases where this is not possible, students should find highly-ranked, rigorous institutions at which to make up any courses that cannot be completed in the regular 8-semester period.

In some cases, as for the Human Anatomy and Physiology courses required for Pharmacy and Optometry, certain required courses may not be offered at Lake Forest College.  In these cases students should plan to take these courses over the summer from rigorous programs, either in the Chicago area or in their home state.

A general course schedule appropriate for students in most majors interested in most health professions is shown below:

The schedule below assumes any major who will be taking the MCAT in April of the junior year and will not be studying abroad.
