ACM Nick Adams Short Story Contest
2008 Guidelines and Information
for Campus English Departments

  1. Entrants must be enrolled students in good standing at Lake Forest College but need not be English majors or enrolled in an English course.
  2. Colleges are limited to a maximum of four entries, to be submitted through the Lake Forest English Department. No more than two entries may be the work of one student. Thus, please submit no more than two (2) stories as in #6 below.
  3. Submitted stories need not be written especially for the contest, but stories cannot have been previously published off-campus.
  4. Each manuscript is limited to 10,000 words.
  5. Stories must arrive in Professor Schneiderman’s mailbox, (K11) no later than February 14th, 2008.
  6. Three (3) copies of each story should be sent to Professor Schneiderman. Each submission should include a removable title page or cover sheet with the author’s name as well as the author’s campus and home address. The title of the story must also appear on the first page of the story. The author’s name should only appear on the title page or cover sheet.
  7. A two-member ACM faculty committee will screen the stories; approximately six stories will then be submitted for final judging by a notable author outside the consortium.
  8. The winner of the context will be announced in early May and will receive an award check for $1,000.
  9. The prize will be awarded only if the final reader finds a story of sufficient excellence.
