Student NEA Chapter Active at the College
July 2008

The Lake Forest College Chapter of IEA/NEA Student Program is an active group with ongoing programs both on and off campus. The group’s officers for the 2008 are Sam Hansen, President and Charice Wilczynski, Treasurer.
In terms of community service, the group goes to Barnes and Noble every first Tuesday of the month to read to children and do various projects with them. In order to encourage participation in these volunteer events, we are now issuing certificates of participation that can be used as supplementary portfolio artifacts to document work with children in educational settings. NEA also assists Kappa Delta Pi with its annual book drive.
Members of NEA are planning to attend the state-wide IEA/NEA Fall Conference; the students attending this event always gain valuable information on teacher preparation. The executive board has also been planning fall events on camps and in the community as well as collaborations with other student organizations that share common interests and goals. We encourage all education majors to become involved with this organization. Any alumni interested in becoming involved as mentors or guest speakers should contact faculty advisor Rachel Ragland.
