Kappa Delta Pi
Year-in-Review

by Mindy Golub '07, Secretary, Kappa Delta Pi

imageKappa Delta Pi had an exciting and productive year. Our main focus was to raise enough money for a successful book drive through various activities. Kappa members worked together diligently by creating, planning, and executing a flower sale, bake sale, and a campus-wide social event, which funded our efforts to provide surrounding towns with quality literature to promote learning and literacy growth. Furthermore, the generous campus community, including faculty and students, made several monetary and book donations to increase the quantity of quality literature we could offer to under-resourced school districts. As Kappa members, we believe in the power of reading, and this cause helped us actualize this belief with our local community. Thank you to all who participated in making this book drive happen!

In February of this past year, Kappa was given the incredible opportunity to fund two officers to attend the Kappa Delta Pi Convocation in Louisville, Kentucky. This national conference allowed our officers to meet other Kappa members from around the United States, share ideas on how to raise funds and run our local chapters, listen to world-renowned inspirational and informational speakers, and, most importantly, attend several workshops daily that helped prepare us to become engaging and motivating educators of students in the 21st century. This was an outstanding growth experience for our chapter.

imageFinally, Kappa finished the year with an initiation and an election of new officers. We had a special guest come to present to the group about the power of storytelling and how it can be used as a strong tool within the classroom. Congratulations and good luck to all the new officers for 2008-09!
