Chemistry Major
The major requires a minimum of eight courses; these include the following six chemistry courses: Chemistry 110 and 111, 220 and 221, 320 and 321.
The remaining two courses must be at the 300 level or above and one of these courses must meet the Senior Studies Requirement. The Senior Studies Requirement may be satisfied by Chemistry 410, Instrumental Analysis, or Chemistry 490, Senior Thesis in Chemistry. Under unusual circumstances, the department may approve some other senior studies option.
The chemistry major also requires the following courses:
Mathematics 110 and 111 (Calculus) or
Physics 110 and 111 (Introductory Physics) or
Physics 120 and 121 (General Physics).
Biochemistry Concentration
Students interested in the biochemistry concentration would take the following courses:
Chemistry 110 and 111.
Chemistry 220 and 221.
Chemistry 300.
Chemistry 320 and 321.
Chemistry 415.
Additional courses required for the biochemistry concentration include:
Mathematics 110 and 111 (Calculus) or
Mathematics 115 and 116 (Honors Calculus).
Biology 352 (Molecular Genetics).
Physics 110 and 111 (Introductory Physics) or
Physics 120 and 121 (General Physics).
Chemistry Minor
The minor consists of five chemistry courses; these include the following four courses:
Chemistry 110 and 111.
Chemistry 220 and 221.
The fifth course must be at the 300 level or higher. Note: All such courses have prerequisites outside the department’s offerings.
